OUR HOSTS: ERIS BREWERY & CIDER HOUSE

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: RYAN SHANNON

Ryan Shannon is a Navy Veteran, husband, father, and mental health advocate. After enduring multiple injuries in the line of duty, Ryan medically retired from service as an E6 in 2016.

In the civilian world, Ryan faced new challenges while undergoing treatment for his visible injuries. He also had to battle the invisible psychological wounds of service.

Ryan’s loving wife Shannon helped Ryan confront his mental health challenges and he found resources to confront his physical and psychological injuries.

Ryan became a public advocate for proactive prevention by educating and sharing his ongoing journey through trauma and healing.

PROACTIVE PIONEER: MICHELLE THOMPKINS

The inaugural recipient Michelle Thompkins is a person who has dedicated themselves to creating safe spaces both physically and psychologically for youth in high adversity spaces in the south and west sides of Chicago.

In 2022 she launched an innovative and bold outreach and enrichment program in partnership with the Noble Charter School system.

“Black Boy Heal: See Me, Hear Me” is a powerful engagement presentation designed to destigmatize mental health and generate open discussion through a mix of facts, lived experience stories, music, and digital elements to create a safe open space for self-expression.
