RTV: Episode 2 Preview!

RAISING THE VISIBILITY is Hope For Us Network’s newest digital education series exploring mental health care in the 21st century! Each episode is a Livestream broadcast that offers interactive education and discussion experience on The Network’s Twitch Channel.

SEASON 1: Stimgas and our Institutions

We will be examining social and cultural factors that can create "blind spots" among professionals that lead to obstacles in identifying, validating, and servicing mental health challenges.

Together with voices representing lived experience, advocacy, clinicians, and professionals, we hope to have a comprehensive discussion identifying problems and seeking solutions!

Episode 2 Featured Guest Expert: Dimple Patel, Psy. D

Dimple Patel, Psy.D. License Eligible Psychologist

Dr. Dimple Patel earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at National Louis University in Chicago, IL.

Dr. Patel serves on the Board of Directors for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention— Illinois Chapter (AFSPIL) and is the co-chair of the DEI committee.

In addition, Dr. Patel actively participates in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Chicagoland Community Walk as a committee member and team captain for Team Patel, which was developed in 2014 after losing her mother to suicide in 2011.

Dr. Patel publicly assists in shedding light on the shame and stigma surrounding mental health issues across the board and within the South Asian community. Dr. Patel’s advocacy work began after her own struggles with mental health as she has made it her mission to normalize mental health issues while also being a working professional in the mental health field. In her downtime, Dr. Patel loves to spend time with family, friends, and her two dogs, Brownie and Cookie.

Roger Breisch

Roger holds a Master of Science in Mathematics from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Science in Management from the Sloan School at MIT.

In the midst of his professional career, Roger has volunteered extensively. He chaired a local 4th of July Fireworks for 17 years, has worked with teens in an anti-alcohol, anti-drug program for 16 years, and has spent more than 4,000 hours answering calls on a suicide hotline over that past 19 years.

Roger speaks and writes extensively. He spoke at both TEDxIIT and TEDxQuincy. He has published two books: “Questions That Matter” and “Humanity’s Journey Home: Surrendering to the Wholeness that is Gaia.” Today, Roger focuses on helping others discover a “Life That Matters.” He and Judi, his wife of 40 years, have two grown children and live in Batavia, Illinois. Leo Fotos is a creator of musical theatre based in New York City. His original musical, TRU, made its Official World Premiere in November 2019 at Stage 773.

TRU has been praised by organizations, including The National Alliance on Mental Illness, The Kennedy Forum, and Hope For The Day, for its impactful telling of the relationship between an individual and their mental illness.

Most recently, original music by Leo Fotos, with co-creator David Gosz, was featured in the first commissioned TikTok musical For You, Paige. The duo is also writing a new musical titled San, encapsulating the incredible life of Mardi Gras designer San Nicholas. Marlo Reyes

Marlo Reyes is a Mexican queer creative who is passionate about ending the stigmas. Marlo has facilitated intensive podcasts breaking silences and celebrating mental health discussions, particularly exploring mental health across the Latin diaspora in the podcast Caguamas-y-Dramas.

Jianna Termini, MOT, OTR/L Jianna is a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist with a deep passion for combating stigma and innovating mental health care. She is at the forefront of integrating new technologies into treatment, healing, and self-care.

Ryan Shannon Ryan grew up in IL and has had a deeply involved life with mental health. He served with distinction in the US Navy from 2008 to 2016. During this time, he would experience intensive situations that created physical and psychological injuries.

These challenges shaped his passion for mental health advocacy. Ryan notes that finding stabilizing tools for his experiences was not done alone but with the loving support of his wife, Jazmine, and wonderful sons. Over the years, Ryan has dedicated his voice, time, and energies to the vast needs of veteran communities and mental health in the general public at large. Recently, Ryan has developed a focus on supporting adolescents with intensive clinical conditions after his 8-year-old son was diagnosed with Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD).
